Sometimes blinking TV can be revised simply by switching off and unplugging the TV. I had a Toshiba LED TV which was not working.
Getting the black screen of death on a Mac is sometimes accompanied by a message to restart your computer. Sometimes it gets so bad that holding the power bottom down for like 30secs does not even turn it off. The Menu does not display anything nor do you see anything when you increase or decrease the volume (sound does increase/decrease).
